Transformative Agreements in Slovakia

Transformative agreements in Slovakia

What is a transformative agreement?

It is an umbrella term describing those agreements negotiated between institutions (libraries, national and regional consortia) and publishers in which former subscription expenditures are repurposed to support open access publishing of the negotiating institutions’ authors, thus transforming the business model underlying scholarly journal publishing, gradually and definitively shifting from one based on toll access (subscription) to one in which publishers are remunerated a fair price for their open access publishing services. (esac)

What do they provide?

They provide both access to reading (subscription paid by libraries) and allow open access publishing (without the need for a separate APC payment) in a select group of journals from a given publisher, all through one centrally negotiated contract. Access to subscription journals is combined with the ability for institutions to publish in OA (Read and Publish) mode within a single service package.
